Surprise!

Filed under: birthday!, clothes, food, friends, shopping, social life, travel — admin @ 11:11 pm

K’s boyfriend managed to pull off an early surprise birthday dinner for her tonight that Mom and I went to. Quite, quite fun and I purposefully only ate half my steak and loaded potato so I’d have lunch for tomorrow. Such good birthday cake.

Before dinner we needed to kill some time and pick up K’s gift certificate for a pedicure so at the Mall I found something majorly surprising: a denim skirt, knee length, in a blue that doesn’t look dirty or stone washed. ON SALE. Rock on! There was also a funny moment when Mom and I picked up identical jackets from across the room. The hounds tooth pattern was too large to look right on anyone our size but still, that was a bit too freaky.

Palmie has also informed me that our travel plans for next year will preempt the Memphis road trip in favor of hostel-ing it in England for a week. Hey, who am I to argue?!?

Inspiration everywhere!

Flipping through the latest Spiegel catalog I got an idea for a card to use as a project for my next article. Surprisingly enough I actually found all the pieces I needed in the Abyss, got the example made and the article written in one evening. Rock On! Three more to go for the month!

Wow!

Not quite uber-productive but seriously productive nonetheless. I managed to do some decent housework this weekend (the apartment is now presentable again) and the next 2 weeks of comics are done, scanned and uploaded. Rock on! Now I get to focus on the remaining articles I need for the month (4 of them! in a little over a week… yeah, busy busy busy). First, though? Bed!

Done!

That was a bit too close for my liking but my articles are submitted. Tomorrow I sleep in… then get started on the next 4, next week’s comics, and cleaning the apartment. What rest?

Struggling

Filed under: writing — admin @ 11:35 pm

The words, they are being stubborn. Time, it is being fleeting. Deadline, it is approaching. Rapidly.

Like tomorrow night. I’m almost through the drafts and I know I’ll get it done, but Vegas and being sick afterwards has really skewed the whole productivity thing. I’ve GOT to get back on track both with the writing and the comic and the everything else. My apartment is a wreck because both suitcases are still gaping open in the living room (never was good at the whole unpacking thing), I haven’t cooked since I’ve been home, the ravages of pre-Vegas prep are still strewn about and it’s just chaos here. And now I’m blogging when I should be editing. Out!

Maybe it wasn’t the omelet

Filed under: eHow, medic!, webcomic, work, writing — admin @ 10:56 pm

Theory is that there was some sort of stomach flu going around as I was laid low by it yesterday and at least one other person who was on the trip came down with something when they got home. Suspicious, no? And sucky, yes! Ugh, Tuesday ended up being a non-anything day except lay around spaced out and weak because nothing would stay down. Not that I had an appetite in the least.

Seemed to be better today. Appetite is still on the non-existent side but I made it through some soup tonight and made it through work today. Finished tomorrow’s comic and working frantically on articles that are due by end of day Friday. Whee! Luckily I did get the 2 drafts done before going out of town, they will be finished early tomorrow evening so I just have one to do start to finish in a night or two. It’ll get done and, hopefully, things are calming down a bit now that Vegas is out of the way and the holidays, etc.

Home.

Filed under: travel — admin @ 1:05 am

Made my connection home so wasn’t delayed (actually I think we ended up coming in early) but I don’t think I’ll willingly schedule a 40 minute layover in ATL again. Vegas was a blast, meeting everyone rocked, we essentially got kicked out of Quarks (as Dino says: think about it…) and Spectrum had a bad experience with a chorizo omelet. Still, it was a cool weekend overall. Even if I never did get around to gambling.

So much for productivity…

Filed under: travel, webcomic, work, writing — admin @ 11:51 pm

I spent almost all of my working hours on a US Dept of Commerce Census. What a pain! But I got it finished and will get it mailed tomorrow and be done with them for another year. Or, well, until the next version they decide to concoct.

At home I did at least make it through an article and a half draft. This is good, this is progress, this will keep me from actually having to work while in Vegas. Woot! Of course, I do still need to get 2 comics done tomorrow night in order for my plan to work. We shall see. Oh, and at some point I really do need to pack! And, you know, clean out my purse for contraband (extra lotions, Jimmy Hoffa, nail files, that sort of thing).

tap*tap*tap: Is this thing on?

Filed under: General — admin @ 11:21 pm

Whoops! Got a little caught up in everything last week and sorta forgot to post. Or, at least, I’d remember only after I’d shut out the lights and was almost asleep and there was no way I was getting back up to blog. One of these days when they get those cybernetic implants perfected, one of these days…

Anyway, too much going on. I got ahead on the comic only to get “behind” again, finished up the January articles but didn’t get ahead on February. Finally finished the packet materials for Vegas only to have to leave the actual assembly until arrival because to do otherwise would have taken probably 5 boxes for it all. Silly negative space!

Had my nails done tonight in prep for Vegas. Horrid experience. It was the college guy not the usual girl and he was just way too in a hurry. I have three fingers that are bleeding a couple more that are way more sore than they should be. It was just sloppy. Then the language barrier prevented me from getting what I really wanted as far as art went and the explosions of rhinestones on my index nails was just too much. I had to dissolve/pry them off when I got home because I couldn’t even leave them on one evening–it was just too blingy for my taste. So tomorrow I will go someplace else after work for a polish change. Screw the art, it was probably not the best idea anyway.
