Okay, so I needed another hobby (ahem, obsession, ahem) like a hole in my head, but here it is anyway: Needle Felting!
Such a wonderful thing this process of taking unspun wool and poking it with a tiny, sharp needle until the fibers compact as you bid them, leaving behind a completely finished object. There's no sewing of seams or stuffing required; it's absolutely giddy-fying (I really doubt that's a word but oh, well, it's late...er, early).
So here he is, my first teddy face, completed in less than a Gilmore Girls episode and with neither a broken needle nor a stab wound to show for it. I imagine with much more practice my finished pieces will look more refined, more smooth, and I probably could have used another layer of wool for the face proper before adding the muzzle and details, but even the "mistakes" are so much fun!
